I've read a couple 2008 reviews on the Internet stating the 08 Highlander Hybrid isn't the best 4WD because of of the modifications of the Hybrid system... Hi- We are currently looking to purchase a new 2008 Highlander Hybrid and were told by one dealer that Toyota is slowing production on the Highlander Hybrid so that they can use the batteries to produce more Prius's. By doing this, the availability of the Highlander Hybrid will go down, therefore increasing the price. Has anyone else heard about this? Also, will ... Read More...

I have had my 2008 highlander hybrid for almost 4 weeks now. (No Nav system or moon roof but has 3rd row seats) First week I got 27mpg city and 26mpg highwy. Next week I got 25/city and 23/highway. We live in Minnesota. We received our new 2008 Highlander Hybrid at the end of January during a cold snap (daily high temperatures below 10 degrees F). Hybrids do get better mileage on the highway than non-hybrids, so the arguement that one would be "better off getting a non-hybrid if you do primarily hwy driving" may not pan out. I'm in Anchorage and get 27 MPG on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid in the warmer months and 17 MPG in the cold months, a 37% decrease in fuel efficiency.
