EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

The xB's larger engine and increased cargo volume moves the car up a size and cuts fuel economy down a notch, which may disappoint some die-hard fans.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Engine was upgraded from 1.5- to 2.4-liters resulting in a marked increase in performance. However, fuel economy has taken a 3-4 mpg hit. Manueverability and steering are still good, but the weight increase reduces the its nimble feeling.

Comfort

RATING

The interior is not only larger, but it's well-trimmed. The rear seat has been enlarged and is now spacious and comfortable for full-size adults.

Function

RATING

Primary controls are logically arranged and easy to use. But the center-mounted gauges remain controversial. Fully integrated iPod functionality is standard.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

The xB's boxy shape is less abrupt than before but remains polarizing. Apparent build quality is high, but the interior is rife with hard plastic surfaces.

Image Enhancer Scion xB still gets its share of second looks.
