They need to buy Dodge. Stick that Cumins diesel in the Suburban and presto. 25mpg mega-hauler. GM trucks should be heavy duty vehicles, the Suburban, the 1500/2500, and the cargo van of course. Three models. Because, that's all they really need and all they really sell in large numbers to individuals. If you need a truck for work, you need a big thing most likely. Crap like the Canyon, which they literally can't sell and I've seen 2007 models STILL on the lot in Los Angeles, no less(not middle of nowhere, Montana) - it just needs to go and the factory be used for something else. And yuppie pseudo SUVs and crossovers and so on, ignore entirely. Let other companies deal with it, because nobody is buying GM crosssovers or SUVs. Note - I don't consider the Suburban a "SUV" - it's a full size 9 passenger truck. SUVs are those little things like the RAV-4 and the crud Volvo is making(which also isn't selling, amazingly. Who would have guessed?) Oh - and bring back the manual in the 1500. Since most people who buy commercial vehicles pre-order them, it's a simple option to add back on the order sheet.(3-5% of your sales is STILL 3-5% and every bit helps right now) Lastly, if something new comes out, don't wait until the next year/cycle to get it out to market. WV is soon to get their Rabbit TDI over here and they aren't waiting 6 extra months. There is already a huge waiting list. 6 more months of sales is just that much more money in their pockets at a time when everyone needs it.
'02 Sonata Frame Rust
by bryceturner on Sat Nov 22 14:46:35 PST 2008
Recently I was changing the oil in my daughter's '02 Sonata (108k miles and 2nd owner) and noticed a hole in the sub-frame inside and behind the right front wheel. The next day I contacted Superior Hyundai in Parkersburg, WV about the problem and they referred me on to a "national" phone number (800-633-5151). Felice said that it had to be checked out by a "dealer" for authenticity. The next day after the check Superior called and said they had ordered the part and would call when it was in. The part was put on 11/20-21/08 and she even got a loaner. Her Case #3436776. Email me if I can be of any assistance. It is apparent that they have a problem with this series of cars and are trying to take care of the problem without it being a recall. bryceturnerwv@yahoo.com
Sorry, blame Steve
by tired_old_dave on Sat Nov 22 10:13:44 PST 2008
Blame Steve, one of the hosts, for this post. He linked this discussion in a Hummer post. Love links to positions that show the post is more than an emotional response. Think the problem is endemic to a consumerist society driven by greed, no regulations please-I got mine go get yours, unless something happens and need to cry like a stuck pig for government programs to help me - that statement is an emotional response to red individuals who talk tough until it hurts them specifically. Yes, American ceos seem grossly overpaid compared to known payments of Japanese executives - been so for a long time. Don't pay to enrich pro athletes either (small local teams popping up all over the area-can't get into the majors or just love to play, hope it is the latter). Saw the evening news and the new honda plant in IN making civics, earn less then union wages and saw mostly young faces and what looked like Japanese managers mixed in the crowd watching the Honda Executive give his speech. I have worked with an older man who was happy to work because he just came from WV earning fifty cents an hour-1979 if I remember correctly. Worked a summer in a seamless tube mill and spent some time on the PA Turnpike decades ago(this is for steve's comment). Instead of a rational approach to growth, Levittown consumed farmland to make money by building houses of sticks and houses are still being built with sticks and plywood if it is available.. Loans, why not. Bankruptcy-is that to break more unions. Ronald was a union hater possibly because of a preceived injustice to him. So he broke the air traffic controllers and the few overworked controllers are still sending out the alarm. A. Jackson, an anti-Hamiltonian, broke the first BUS and Biddle. How would you like to bring back red dog banking. Recessions and worse until the final straw when regulations protected us (under FDR) until this latest round of deregulation and money grabbing. Worked in sales awhile back, the owner was once an airplane mechanic until...cheaper bodies could be found who couldn't read. An now an amusing incident, was coming out of a parts store and noticed a guy wiring under the hood and was suprised a new truck had a wiring issue. He had wired up his own trailer hitch and had a problem. So he said he did what he does at work-put in a piece of heavy copper wire and see what melts then wire around it. His occupation-aircraft mechanic, says those old planes have been worked on so much blueprints are useless. The personal auto is the result of corporate and government cooperation? destroying mass transit decades ago. Even Jay Leno made a comment of the danger of lost technology. Why do think the Chinese demanded the technology to build vehicles. I have done several industrial and technical jobs before that BS diploma. Things would not work without the passing down of specific information from one person to the next about that job, product, method. Give them the loan - where are the trillions the current ins have given away or are you still listening to those fear mongerers on the radio misdirecting your emotions.
Gas Prices
by crazedcommuter on Sat Nov 22 05:56:58 PST 2008
Winchester, Va. gas prices as of this morning are at $1.72 along the I-81 corridor. Martinsburg, WV. is still up around the $1.99 mark so it may be worth it to make the 20 minute trip south to Va. for the cheaper gas. We have been doing our regular food shopping there for awhile to take advantage of the cheaper gas prices. Wish we had the $1.45 gas here. I remember in 1999 gas was at $.89 at Liberty and Marathon stations around the Steubenville, OH--Weirton, WV border. Will we ever get that low again???

No misquote there. I have spoken to both a customer rep and a Business side rep for Chevrolet both emphasized that each GM dealership no matter if its Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Chevy or whomever are owned by individual people that call the shots GM cannot force them to do work under warranty. Most dealerships gave me the excuse that they would not get paid for the work and that it would go straight to the original purchasing dealership not to them which I didn't understand but that was how it was explained to me at Anthony Chevrolet in Fairmont, WV which is the next closest dealership to me. The original is located over 100 miles south of me. Its being leased by GMAC so I am paying towards owning this sad excuse for a car. I again have been tracking my avg fuel mileage and so far since purchase I have averaged over 24mpg on the Highway and a lousy 15mpg in the city. That is what my parent's Explorer should be clocking in at mpg wise. It continues to shut down and die randomly so during all this snow I can't wait for it to abandon me on the roadside while I pay for this supposed free roadside assistance I was told I would have to possibly pay for if the driver asked for major credit card for the tow to the dealership, which would not be refunded.
Property Tax
by oliver15 on Fri Nov 14 04:47:01 PST 2008
I returned my leased Honda Odyssey in June 2007, and bought a new Odyssey. Since I terminated the lease and did not have the leased vehicle on July 1, 2007, I do not owe property tax on the vehicle (WV tax code) this year. Honda Finance sends a list of leased vehicles to the State. which then sends them tax bills for each vehicle. My vehicle was reported as still being leased onJuly 1, 2007, so Honda got a tax bill and paid it. Now they are trying to make me pay the bill. I have proven I did not have the vehicle, but they keep on trying. Any advice?
