Boy, almost makes me want to go buy one just for the engine. Okay, well, maybe not, but I am antsy to see what the debut of the 2010 Legacy/Outback brings....

hey byron, so you drove the 09 av avant and have an older a4 avant as well? my question is around the new transmission. i have had 4 audis including an allroad and an 07 a4. all were awesome, the only thing i hate is the transmission- slow to react, downshift and just kinda shitty. anyway, just to clarify what you are saying.... it sounds like you agree on my assessment of the previous model's transmission and are saying that the new transmission is new and better? if so, that may mean that i don't need to go to an a3 with the dsg this time (wish they put that on the a4). please feel free to share your thoughts on your older a4 and the new one if you have anything else to add. i am getting a new car in april and right now am thinking about the a3, a4 avant, bw 328xi, volve v50 type r. also, is it me or did audi really bump up their prices? i was just at the la car show and they seemed to be a bit too high. thanks.

Yes, but Outback must be doing fairly well, as last I saw there were no incentives on the Outback. This time last year, there was a $1500 incentive. The year before, it was $750. I think between the upgrades to Impreza, the new Forester, and the upgrades to Outback (VDC across the lineup), Subaru is a very compelling purchase for many people right now. With the instability in the economy, it is all about value, versatility, and longevity.
First 4 Tanks Mileage Report
by micweb on Mon Dec 01 09:29:08 PST 2008
First, the '09 Focus Sedan stick shift was awesome for the drive to LA. I had to drive bumper to bumper the first 26 miles (which took 2 hours), then slow and go for 225 miles, to my overnight stop. The car was quiet and smooth throughout. It was solid and quiet a 75 mph, comparable to my old '06 Impala. What a relief to have a quiet car at last, and not to have to "upsize" to Odyssey or Impala size to get rid of the noise! Anyway here is my report on mileage: Tank #1 (my first refill) 181.7 miles, 5.387 gallons, 33.73 mpg Tank #2 175.2 miles, 4.953 gallons, 35.38 mpg Tank #3 226.7 miles, 6.21 gallons, 36.51 mpg Tank #4 271.9 miles, 7.907 gallons, 34.39 mpg Overall 34.98 mpg, incredible from a car this size. The MPG indicator in the "computer" message center built into the car (SE's and above) was wildly optimistic, initially showing 39-40 mpg. It seems to be "settling down" to more realistic numbers (it is currently telling me I am getting 37 mpg) although I thought it counted fuel injector pulses and should be quite accurate. The Ford calculator makes the Chevy calculator, which is only ever 1 or 2 mpg optimistic, look like a model of accuracy. If you have a Focus, you should print out gas receipts and note your miles on that tank (using the trip mileage calculator) for a more accurate indicator of milealge. The only oddity I noted in this series was that I seemed to get better mileage in the slow and go (after the initial bumper to bumper) than in constant high speed cruising. Love the car, love the mileage.
Re: The Sunroof Dilemma -- Chapter 2 [austincoopers]

I am currently an owner of a 2003 Mini Cooper S, fully equip with all the bells and whistles and best of all it has the dual glass sunroof. I live in Viva Las Vegas and with our excruciating 115 degree heat my poor Mini Cooper has a difficult time keeping the cabin cold with the A/C. This is due to the fact that the Mini Cooper's sunroof is only equip with a see through mesh screen, rather than a solid screen, used to cover up the cabin from the sun. I had thought about tinting the sunroof, but many professionals told me not to, since it may shatter due to the tempered glass not being able to accept the window tint's difference in temperature rating. By now I am entirely fed up with my sunroof, so I went online searching for some kind of sunroof sunshade to protect my interior, and luckily I was only able to find a company that produce a good quality sun shade. Visit their website: link title I just recently ordered this sunroof shade and it works phenomenally. Forget the window tint, this is definitely the way to go. MCS_Fanatic

If I were Mullaly, I'd have told the senate where to stick their corporate jet comment as well. You act as if the CEO does nothing to earn that salary - unlike the union, there is no leverage they hold over the stockholders head to get that salary, the market pays for guys with their talents and skills, just like a football player. It seems extreme to us, but you'd take it if you could get it, you know you would.
