Re: 1994 Chevy Silverado - Where do I start? [a760chevy]

Interesting situation. You bought a 14 year old NON-OPERATIONAL truck to learn on. I'd suggest you ask the instructor his/her opinion. You could take it to AAMCO but I don't think you'll like the result of the test nor the free quote that comes with it.

Tow haul mode causes the motor to rev higher before shifting so yes, it is winding out cause the truck don't have enough torque to begin with. When you hit a bump there is an amount of wheel spin. The locker will pick that up as slippage and engage. Nothing wrong there either.

The factory manual indicates what you state to be correct.

The P or passenger tire like the Michelin LTX M/S has a max psi of 35#. Being a passenger tire 30-35# will give you the best ride. However, running LT tires which are designed to be installed on the 2500 and 3500HD with more belts and a stiffer sidewall should have no problem running at 38-40# with no load on a half ton truck. I can imagine your ride at 45 psi.

With a few exceptions, you will be treated with disdain in these forums and everything you say will be picked apart. I often wonder why any car salesperson would post a story here only to be ragged on by the senior citizens that lurk here with nothing else better to do. Guess that's why this topic has degraded to what it is now.
Re: Car Pool to Washington [gagrice]

"....The fact it cost more to live in Michigan is irrelevant to the marketplace. Not the persons problem buying a new car." Well, it does become relevant in some ways. While the insurance industry is different from the auto, when a disaster happens like Katrina or the 1989 SF/ OAK earthquake, or the yearly wildfires and mudslides in CA, insurance companies will pay to rebuild and FEMA will give grants to rebuild in the same place, even though it is known that these disasters will happen again. Then, up here in RI, where we have had 2 minor hurricanes in the last 40 years no major tornadoes, no earthquakes, no disasters, a company like MetLife stops selling homeowners insurance here because they see an elevated risk. That DOES impact me, as it is one less choice I have, and other companies can use that as leverage to raise rates. My HI has gone up over 20% since Katrina. Why?? So somebody can rebuild their house in tornado alley, only to have it ripped down in 5 years by another????
