Re: I'm disappointed [fezo]

I hereby throw my vote for WORST car to the Smart, a car whose only real attribute is parkability, even though the clueless target market is people who think they're buying a high-MPG Polar Bear saver that they can self-righteously flaunt at the local food co-op. The Smart may have a "safety cell", but without a crumple zone, passengers may face the same fate as Dale Earnhardt Sr in a big crash. :surprise:
If I were in charge

1. lobby gov't for loans 2. buy some car magazine publishing companies back from the current Japanese owners. 3. Figure out how to hold down the price of gas for the next 5 years 4. eliminate half of the 200 highest paid executives jobs in GM, worldwide. 5. negotiate a union contract that allows robots to eliminate jobs 6. negotiate to enforce a mandatory union retirement at 30 years 7. negotiate the elimination of pay to anybody not working an actual job, like jobs bank. 8. negotiate that union workers pay $3000 to $6000 a year for their family health and dental care insurance and co-pay like salary workers already do, including retirees. 9. lobby to get the gov't to buy all unused plants and real estate owned by GM but not being utilized 10. lobby to get gov't to have all buyers of new foreign cars (defined by company ownership) audited. (includes leasing and rentals) 11. lobby to get gov't to match funding for all R&D aimed at increasing fuel efficiency. 12. Get states to exempt D3 workers from state income tax, and collect that lost revenue from auto workers in foreign owned plants, equally divided among all of them. 13. lobby gov't to make it illegal to manufacture cars in America using parts purchased within the USA from non US owned companies, without paying auto import tarriffs.
Re: Myth No. 3 [dallasdude1]

dallasdude1: Go ahead and buy one of those Honda Hybrids, they are a joke and my co workers son had to roll one into his new car note. And yet every survey I've seen gives them excellent scores for reliability. Did the person who told you that Asian cars decompose faster than domestic ones tell you this about the Honda hybrids, too?
SMOG ONLY.....
by ruking1 on Mon Dec 01 11:52:15 PST 2008
Was this really necessary? Or just another STATE (etc) revenue source? Just got back from a "SMOG ONLY" vendor. The test was done on a 15 year old SUV. Here are some actual measurements: Emissions Control Systems Visual Inspection/Functional Check Results, passed 18/18 tests Visual Inspection (Pass), Functional Check (Pass), Emissions Test (Pass) Idle Emission Test Results 863 rpm, (%co2-14.6) ,(%02-0.3), HC (ppm) (MAX 100, AVE 26, MEASURED 0 (ZERO) , ) CO (%) (MAX 1.00 AVE 0.00 MEAS 0.00) 2649 rpm, (%co2-14.5), (%02-0.5) , HC(ppm) ( MAX 180, AVE 11, MEAS 1) C0 (%) (MAX 1.10 AVE 0.10 MEAS 0.00) It is advertised as a RANDOM test (over a certain amount of years). I however have gotten in effect a BI ANNUAL mandatory random inspections cycle. This is the FOURTH one by the way.
Re: Car Pool to Washington [andre1969]
by michaell on Mon Dec 01 11:15:17 PST 2008
andre, it's funny that you should prefer the Aura to the Malibu - especially the rear. One thing that truly annoys me about the Aura is that there isn't really a good spot to put your hand to close the trunk lid - no license plate cut out, no chrome trim, nada. Which means you'll put fingerprints on the paint. The 3.5L/4-speed was phased out in 2007, I think. If I had to get one, I'd probably go with the 2.4L/6-speed auto.

Interesting list. Given that you've put the A3 on there, why not the GTI? Basically the same car, but perhaps more of them are available used.
