It has a been a while since I last posted. In any case, for all you current and future Porsche owners. I have five vehicles, three of which are Porsche's. For what they cost and how they perform, a Porsche is not good value. I've driven many and am not impressed Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just as are those qualitative factors that individual consumers choose as their priorities (or not!). I just took my 07 turbo in for its first service a week ago and encountered the same issue. The dealership wanted to charge me $1600 for a new set of rear Michelins and another 500 for an AWD alignment. My fronts have only 50% wear and it seems evenly disbursed. I don't think many people with the coin to drop on a 911 turbo have curbed their spending that much on the basis of the current financial markets. Think again. When the 997 Turbo first came out, there was a pent up demand and 6+ month wait. My dealer that gave me a $10k discount on a new 911 C2S Cab in September 2005 told me that $2,000 off was the very best he could do for ... Read More...

have followed this discussion at great length and I am amazed at how the Nissan fans are so pumped up on this new, and I may add, good car they have produced. Have you taken habitat1's suggestion and test driven various models - and really decided you want AWD? That's a $6k cost increase that would be a complete waste, if you are indifferent or worse - prefer the lighter weight RWD. For what it's worth, I am 5+/- weeks away from turning in my 911 Turbo for a GT2 and a big chunk of that $75k exchange cost will be to get a lighter ... Read More...

Okay, Went to the dealership, drove the 911 Cab, I am in love with the car. Bad news is that if I go new it could take three to four months to get the car. He had one on the lot a new 2007 Cab 4S which he claimed was invoiced at 114,000 and it was "discounted" to 99,000. I don't have the options list. So I say no. Good thing you did (say no), or you'd have a much more serious dilemma. When I drove an RX-8 a few years ago with my niece who was car shopping, we both thought it was pretty soft in handling and performance compared to a Honda S2000, let alone anything by Porsche.
