Update on our clutch/transmission noise. Our car would make a metallic sound when downshifting mainly from 3rd to 2nd. Our Mini dealer deglazed the clutch 3 times and the noise improved. Mini has a new Service Bulletin out #210107 which says "the clutch and dual mas flywheel have an unfavorable tolerance." They removed the transmission and replaced the clutch ... Read More...

Our's is a 2008. From delivery, it made a strange noise when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Kind of the noise the front brakes make on a 21 speed bike when you hit them hard. Anyway, the dealer has deglazed the clutch 3 times now and the noise has pretty much disappeared. We're at 6,000 miles now. Read More...

I currently own a 2008 Clubman S and was looking at a used 2006 Mini Cooper S with auto transmission. Love the car, color and price but what does anyone know about issues with 2006 models and the auto transmission? My research indicates most of the problems were pre 2004 and also the CVT autos. I just ordered a 2009 Mini Cooper S with all options. My expected delivery is in 8 to 10 weeks. Paid MSRP. I tried to buy from the NW Mini dealer, but they were too busy to even bother talking to me after I waited an hour at the dealership. 'Cause they are pretty DARN good! From Automotive News, for 2008 sales through June 30: Fit: up 67% from 2007 Accent: up 48.9% Rio: up 29.1% Yaris: up 39% Mini Cooper: up 33.6% And if you're counting Versa (debatable for inclusion in this category, IMO), it is up 20.7%. Actually , there were NO vehicles on the market that matched my criteria for a purchase right now. Again, this came closest and was barely behind the Honda Fit (2009 model ONLY) You must be easy to please. Yes. due diligence in research was observed in the purchase of this Mini cooper. And yes, I was , and most people would be better off in a Subaru for most occasions. It was time to sell my AWD as it uses more fuel than i want during this "time in our nations history". This is a "Stop Gap" purchase , to own until a bio- Diesel WITH Hybrid arrives in the USA.
