Believe or not, but Russia is on pace to surpass Germany in car sales for 2008. Such explosive growth is one reason why the 2008 Moscow Auto Show is making news this year. Carmakers from around the world are anxious to show off their latest models to the emerging market, so there will be several world premieres making news.
Most notable among them is the Mazda Kazamai concept. According to Mazda, the name "Kazamai" is Japanese for "swirling crosswinds." Its lightweight body and flowing design are intended to give an impression of "visual lightness." The Kazamai would have low CO2 emissions, frugal gas mileage and exciting driving dynamics if it were a production model, Mazda says.
For a true production model, look no further than the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. It's set to make its world debut in Moscow in both five- and seven-passenger versions. Designed for markets in Russia, South America and the Middle East, it will offer both gas and diesel power plants. There are no plans for U.S. sales.
The official press day is August 26, so check back here to see all the latest from Moscow.
