BEIJING — The Ford Motor Company continued its long-running global launch of the new-generation Fiesta with the rollout at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show of the Fiesta five-door.
Designed and engineered in Europe, the new Fiesta had been previewed earlier in a series of Verve concepts, including a four-door notchback sedan that was unveiled in China late last year at the Guangzhou show.
Ford says the new Fiesta will be introduced in various world markets, including Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia and the Americas, between 2008 and 2010.
The cars will begin production in China later this year at the Chang'an Ford Mazda joint venture in Nanjing. By 2010, the Fiesta also will be assembled in Europe and Latin America, as well as India and possibly other Asian markets.
Depending on the region, Ford plans to offer the Fiesta with a choice of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.
What this means to you: This should be the best-looking Ford compact in Asia — not to mention in North America — in years. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
