In the sedan, the V6 engine is a strong performer. Handling and steering accuracy are sound, but steering feedback is somewhat low. We found the coupe to be a bit more engaging to drive. Well-calibrated automatic transmissions deliver timely and decisive shifts. Those who prefer a manual will not be disappointed, as gearing is good, shifts are direct and accurate and the clutch has good feel. All Accord variants deliver above-average fuel economy compared to similarly equipped competitors.
For a family sedan, the Accord sedan rides a tad on the firm side and road noise is only average. Current Honda fans propably won't be disappointed, but those coming over from cushier rivals might have issues. The ride quality seems well-matched to coupe buyer expectations, however. A highly adjustable driving position can be tailoered to just about anyone, but our taller testers found the front seats uncomfortable on long drives.
Impressions vary widely depending on body type and equipment. Visibility is good in the sedan, but the coupe's design restricts visibility to the rear. Radio and climate controls are brilliantly simple without navigation, but ordering a nav system alters the control layout of these subsystems and makes them harder to use. In all versions, the instrument panel and secondary control switchgear are logically laid out and easy to use. Trunk space is quite generous, but gooseneck hinges impinge on the space somewhat as the lid is closed. 60/40 split seats and an available pass-through work very well.
Most of our staff found the coupe to be stunning. Opinions were more mixed when it came to the sedan. In both, the interior looks as functional as ever but more attractive than previous Accords, especially in the coupe. But all agree that the fit and finish, interior materials, panel gaps and other assembly and design details are top-notch on either one.
Family Friendly
The newly redesigned Accord continues to be a good choice for families.
Daily Commuter
Good fuel economy and nimble handling make the Accord a great daily driver.
Economical Transportation
Accords have always been reliable, fuel-efficient and have had good resale value. The new 2008 model should be no different.
Comfortable
The Accord feels larger than last year, with interior space among the class leaders. It is also well-finished inside and rides reasonably well.
