Excellent towing and hauling capability. A comfortable ride for a truck of its stature.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

The available 6.6-liter PowerStroke diesel gives the F-250 excellent towing and hauling capability, with maximum tow ratings exceeding that of other so-called 3/4-ton competitors.

Comfort

RATING

Depending on the options selected, the F-Series Super Duty line can be quite well-appointed and comfortable. Longer leaf springs for '08 do make the ride more palatable than before, and a bit better than its direct competitors, but it's still on the stiff side without a trailer attached or a load in the bed. Consider a smaller truck if frequent towing or heavy-duty usage isn't your plan.

Function

RATING

Air-conditioning, audio systems and other interior controls are straightforward. Plenty of interior storage is available via a large center console and generous bi-level door pockets. An innovative bed step folds out of the tailgate.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

Outside, F-Series trucks look every bit the part of a heavy-duty hauler. But inside, the tough truck theme is a bit over-the-top. Assembly quality is about average for such a truck truck.

DETAILED PROFILE:

Towing Capable Tow ratings are healthy with the V8 or V10 gasoline engines. With the 6.4-liter PowerStroke diesel, the F-250's tow rating is higher than all other 3/4-ton trucks. Choose a 4x2 if you want the highest possible rating.

Cargo Hauler A crew cab and an 8-foot bed can be paired together on the F-250. Most 4x2 configurations have a payload above 3,000 pounds.

Off-Road Ready Four-wheel drive is available on any configuration. While the Super Duty line is not intended for ultimate rock-crawling, the F-Series part-time 4x4 system will help it claw through most questionable road surfaces.
