Bought a 2008 Outback 2.5i

I don't know how good of a deal I got, but I like how the car drives and my wife like the color. There is only two dealers in Charlotte, NC, so my choice is rather limited. Here's the price I paid for other's benefit. MSRP 25,660, paid $22925 after the $1000 Rebate. It's about $200 below Invoice, and $2700 below MSRP. Basic 2.5i Automatic with a few convenience options (Auto Dim lights and Rubber Floor mat, etc).

I just placed a deposit with my local dealer, Southern States Subaru in Raleigh NC, for a 2008 7 passenger Limited in Deep Bronze. They are doing a dealer transfer from a dealer who is ~120 miles away. I'll be picking up the vehicle on Friday. MSRP of $35,305, selling price $32,300 and out the door for $33,710 including tax, tag and doc fee. I did the entire deal via email/phone and used the pricing from www.fitzmall.com as a reference for negotiating. I used this same method back in 2001 when I bought my '02 Outback LLBean from them. It was painless, and providing a concrete reference to show what price I can get via a short train ride and drive home really provides a great negotiating point. The Tribeca is going to be a 40th birthday present for my wife. It will be the vehicle that finally allows me to gain possession of my Outback. I drove the Outback for about a week before she declared it as her own, and relegated me to the Honda Odyssey.

Thanks so much Morey, My husband is just devastated and thank God he is fine but he says the other day was the biggest nightmare because they were in some small town in Georgia stuck forever. Thank God he called our sales person back at Suburu in Ft Lauderdale who (after some shock) is arranging to get the car towed back to Florida to repair. We are now in a rental and now in NC. It may be weeks before my car is repaired. :confuse:

I just placed an order today for the B9 7 passenger Ltd loaded w/Nav/Dvd and anything else I could add on. It's going to be black with tan interior. My delivery will be in December. The dealer is going to add Bluetooth for me as well. Am very excited and this will be perfect timing for when we start driving up those icy mountains in NC!!!! :)
'06 Legacy GT sedan 5MT...
by ronsteve on Sat May 27 08:29:42 PDT 2006
I was quoted $500 over invoice...less the $1500 factoy rebate...plus $249 doc if he can get his hands on it... but at the same time I've got the feeling he's light on my trade. Anyone have a heads-up on what's happening to the rebates in June?
Legacy GT sedan...where to hit them?
by ronsteve on Mon May 22 11:10:22 PDT 2006
I'm in NC and looking to buy a Legacy 2.5GT Limited (5M) sedan, and wondering what I should look for as a good price. I'm sure it makes a difference that it would most likely involve a dealer trade, but how much of a difference should I figure? And how do I figure the "cost" of the options when it is a dealer trade (i.e. is invoice still really invoice here)? Finally, I know that the true...i.e. post-rebate...base invoice is $25,9ish, and with the options on most of the stock around here $26,6ish... but are there incentives to the dealer that might be cutting into the cost even more (yes, I know about holdback, but beyond that)? I think my first number would be $27... curious to know if you think I should legitimately be able to do better.
