"Oh, I didn't know this is acutally a FORD." ?? Not sure where you got that info... it's not. Subaru has no connections to Ford. Tribeca is built and sold only as a Subaru model, by the fine workers at the Subaru Indiana Automotive factory in Lafayette, IN, side-by-side with Outback and Legacy.
Bouncing Baby Forester!

Yesterday my husband and I drove home our new '09 2.5x Limited - our first new car since 1994. We're very excited but a bit overwhelmed by all the new bells/whistles. This has been a very hot car here in central N.J. We went to 4 lots (2 in N.J. and 2 in Pa.) and went online to another 5-6 before we could get what we wanted. Even with all our invoice research, I'm sure we left money on the table. But we actually walked out of 2 dealerships (and I'm on crutches w/broken ankle) who wouldn't work with our price info. So we feel that we did the best we could, considering the car's popularity. The final dealer quoted $500 over invoice and didn't ask about trade-ins or how'd we pay. (One rejected dealer actually had said, "Of course whether or not you finance makes a difference in the vehicle's price!" Riiiiiight.) So our final rundown was: Camellia red pearl (hard to find around here, but my husband really wanted a red car) Pzev Utility package Popular equipment group 3 (4 cargo nets, spotlight) Trailer hitch, installed (for a bike carrier we'll get later) Bumper corner moldings, installed Ipod interface kit, installed All-weather floor mats Luggage compartment cover Ipod tray Pricing ended up: $24,541 - invoice 500 - over invoice 665 - destination 485 - Utility pkg. $928 - Pzev + all other options, installed where indicated $27,119 before TTL and trade-in of very shaky '94 Taurus ($300) And there were no weird miscellaneous dealer charges, like advertising or security etching. After seeing how far other dealers would/wouldn't negotiate, and how hard it was to find our desired color, we were content not to haggle for a piece of the holdback or other discounts. Our dealer was straightforward and low pressure - only asked cursorily if we wanted an extended warranty (no, d'accordo) and didn't mind us putting all our invoice price info all over their desks. A very decent experience. Now if only that red security light would stop flashing 24/7 . . .
Bait & Switch in Colorado
by sgloon on Thu May 29 21:30:43 PDT 2008
I took the dive today and went to pick up my car at Valley Nissan/Subaru in Longmont, Colorado :lemon: They had given me the best price (Internet quote) to date for my new 2009 Forester X premium. They had called me Monday to say my car was in! I was out of town, so I stopped by on my way back home, rather than wait another day. I went for the test drive. The mirror wasn't the Homelink one per their bid, so I mentioned it and they said they would "throw it in". Then there was an Ipod interface ($145 list) that I noticed, which I don't need, but I ignored it. I filled in all the paper work, they checked my credit rating, I was signing everything when I got to see the price they had filled in on the form. Long story short, they refused to honor the written quote that I have for my vehicle which is to expire in 2 days. They want me to pay $1k more, and are trying to tell me it is a good deal. I want them to honor the deal I made with them. They did not offer to order the correct car. They vaguely referred to the fact that this car has a higher MSRP than the one they quoted me. I have no idea what the MSRP is as the sticker was removed before I got there. $145 for an Ipod interface raises the value of the car by $1000. I don't think so!!! I walked out. They flat out lied to me. At no time did they indicate that they wanted me to pay a higher price until I saw it on the paperwork. What is with that!!! Hoping I would miss it, and just sign??? On top of that, the car that they quoted me originally is less than 20 miles down the road. The dealership manager told me on Saturday, that the other dealer would not trade for it. It is still sitting there! Bait & Switch. All I can say is: DO NOT SHOP VALLEY Nissan/SUBARU IN LONGMONT, CO. Tomorrow I am calling our local TV troubleshooter to have them investigate. Avoid Valley Nissan/Subaru in Longmont Colorado like the plague. Bait and Switch and they just expect people/me to accept it. They tried to "show" me how they were taking a hit at that price. I really don't care. I was given a price without being shown the "real dealer prices" and I accepted it. I want the car they quoted me at the price they quoted me. Or another of equal or better value. They made no suggestion that they had made a mistake, so I wonder if this is how they do business on a regular basis. They didn't even tell me that this was a differently priced vehicle until I saw the price I was paying. What is with that!!! I might stay away from Subaru's because of this. I have to start looking for another car all over again. I hope you all have better luck than I did.

Good Evening Morey, Yeah I know the numbers, but still hard to swallow. I not a hybrid fan, so that's out. And I'm not a Mercedes fan either - I know Smart is made by Mercedes too. I'll sell the Tribeca when I'm able to get the Smart. Again I fully expect to bite the bullet. I've done it before, but never to the extent I'm anticipating. Of course by the time the Smart is available gas prices could be better or much worse. I have a few friends that know the inside and it indicates the latter of the two. However, remember '08 is an election year and "miracles" ;) do seem to happen in those years. And I'm going to date myself, but I had one of the first Honda 600's in the USA. That thing had a 600cc engine in it, but it was one of the most amazing cars I have ever owned. I've seen some of the "imported" Smarts and the ones that Penske is going to be bringing in are going to have vast improvements over those. And - I like to support those that have the brass to take a chance (although knowing Roger's talent for spotting and investing in "major" ventures - I don't think it has much of a chance of failing). I just wish Subaru had some of the same brass and moved PDQ on getting the R2 over here. That car is one heck of a vehicle too and would sell very well. BTW -I know how trade-ins work and I've been very good at getting top dollar on the trade-in and maximum discount on the new one. But in the market we have today no chance. Dealers are out to maximize profit on each deal. There is a Honda "superstore" in town that was selling 300 new units a month not to long ago. Last week they sold 2 new units. I still have friends in many places in the country (I use to do dealer floor planning) and ALL of them report the same thing - poor sales now and for the foreseeable future. Almost as bad as the housing market and it too will get worst if gas prices don't come down and the FED thinks they need to raise interest rates to combat "inflation". Oh well, we'll see what happens in early '08. Appreciate your feedback.
